Increase Your Metabolism: 3 Major Steps
1. Weight training
By doing any form of resistance based training you will build muscle which revs up your metabolism and increases your basal metabolic rate (BMR).
This is the amount of calories you burn everyday simply by being alive. So the more you increase your BMR the more chance you have to losing fat even whilst you are doing nothing.
Muscle requires energy so the more muscle you have, the more fuel you burn because fat doesn't require any energy to maintain it!
2. High intensity interval training (HIIT)
A type of anerobic cardio that will always keep your body guessing. No matter how advanced you get with this technique, you can always push yourself harder, which will get your heart rate high enough to promote your body to break down more carbohydrates and fat for energy.
Interval training is far superior to boosting your metabolism compared to steady state aerobic training. Steady state aerobic does not increase your metabolism at all. It is true that you are burning calories while you are actually performing the aerobics.
However, once you are done with your session, your metabolism returns to normal. With Interval Training, not only will you burn more calories per minute then steady state aerobic training, you will also continue to burn calories once you finish.
Combining this with the right amount of resistance training, you can actually boost your metabolism enough to burn calories for the next 24-42 hours. So imagine how much you could change your physique if you were to be burning calories for the next 2 days, even as you sleep.
3. Eat smaller meals more often
Eating every two to four hours helps to maintain your metabolism. By eating more often your glucose and insulin levels are kept in balance.
When we eat only three large meals with 4 or more hours in between our insulin levels tend to spike and then plummet. Leaving you feeling hungrier at the next meal.
Eating often and regularly leads to eating less, burning more fat, lower cholesterol levels, and lower insulin levels. It is good to eat three meals and two snacks every day to achieve this metabolism boost and help rid belly fat.
